Theatre Ontario and the Shaw Festival are jointly presenting a summer 2010 return of our successful theatre experience.

By George! A Theatre Immersion is a week-long learning experience designed for teachers, practitioners and audience members who wish to expand their knowledge of theatre.

Overview

Spend a week immersed in the Shaw Festival! Program includes four matinee performances, educational programs with company members, backstage tours, talk-back sessions, and post-show group discussions, four lunches and refreshments.

Participants will spend a week immersed in the Shaw Festival:

  • Four matinee performances (One Touch Of Venus, The Cherry Orchard, The Doctor's Dilemma and The Women)
  • Educational programs lead by members of the Shaw company;
  • Opening wine and cheese reception;
  • Talk-back sessions with cast and crew (maximum 7 per group);
  • Backstage tours;
  • Analytical focus-group discussion about the performance to enhance and fine-tune critical perception.

Participants responsible for their own accommodations and breakfast and dinner arrangements.

Changes For 2010

  • Course participants will arrange their own accommodation to allow for individual taste and price preferences;
  • Post-show discussions will be smaller (maximum 7 people plus a facilitator) to allow for better participation and to encourage focus for personal interest and experience;
  • Post-show discussions will take place earlier in the day to allow participants to either see an evening show or to have a leisurely dinner afterwards;
  • Some of the post-show discussions will take place in a restaurant to allow participants to have something to eat (for those who can’t wait until 7:30 to dine).

Fee

Included in the $725 fee are lunches in the Shaw Festival Green Room Cafe, all theatre tickets, instructors, and GST.

Participants will make their own accommodation, breakfast and dinner arrangements from a variety of local options.
